Our Dorm Verses- Spring '09
"For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love."

This has nothing to do with freshman questions...but this was the most convenient spot to comment on Courtney and Chad now dating...FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)
Love you all!
haha... Hillary you crack me up. :) On the topic at hand...I don't think it's really a question, but something I regret was that first semester... I didn't ask ENOUGH questions. I wanted so hard not to appear as a "freshman" that I kept a lot of concerns to myself. My advice to the incoming freshmen... ASK! That's what your dorm sup, RA's, and PC's are for. That's what they are there for. Seek them out and share your heart. You don't have to blindly go through your first year at MBBC. That's the great thing about Weeks- there are so many wonderful girls who want to help! :)
Well, if you don't use it or wear it at home, you are about 200 times less likely to use or wear it here! =)
for some of your general classes that many people have to take you can easily rent the books from people on campus for a cheaper price instead of buying them. just ask around:)
I agree with Bonnie, its hard to know what to bring as a new student. For me, it is helpful to divide my stuff into 3 piles: need, want, and can do without. You would be surprised how the last 2 "piles" really aren't used that much over a 4 year college career, besides taking up space of course!
so true.
yeah karen! so your only going to bring three mounds of stuff this year? maybe you could even sleep in your bed the week of whiteglove!
I was scared of what my roommates were going to be like. Take time to pray for your roommates this summer. God is so good...He knows exactly who He wants in your life next year. After praying all summer for the girls God was going to room me with, it was cool to see how close the 5 of us got. God is good, all the time!
I totally agree with Lynnae. My biggest fear coming to college was that my roomies would be terrible. I was afraid that they wouldn't like me and I'd spend the whole time miserable. But at the advise of a friend, I started praying about my roomies before I ever met them. I was ready to love them before I ever met them. And they were awesome. We had a great year. And so I continued to pray for my roomies every summer, and I have had the best rooms ever (you all know who you are ;P ). Some of my best friends were my roomies first. You become almost like a little family. Complete with the occasional fight, but hey, when there are 5 girls living in a small space for 9 months...it's inevitable. Just don't let the tough times ruin all the good times. Like taping your short roomie's phone to the ceiling, or suprise parties, or just chating for hours. Roomies are the best part of dorm life. Especially when they become your best friends.
Besides finding out who your roommates are, it is also exciting when you find out what dorm you are in. I was somewhat nervous when I found out I was in Weeks, because that is the farthest dorm, and I know Wisconsin winters are pretty bad. But it was so worth it! There is a saying in our dorm that "Weeks is Worth the Walk," and I think that is really true, because the people in Weeks are awesome! One of my favorite things we did as a dorm was go Christmas caroling! Oh ya, and I have a quick story. I was wearing my Weeks Wonder Women hoodie at the mall last night, and I went to buy some ice cream and when the guy working handed me my ice cream he said, "There ya go Wonder Woman!" Go Weeks Wonder Women!!!
Tips to freshman!!! :) Leaving family and friends from home is hard - esp. if u don't know anyone at your new college (i didn't). That's why this blog is a great idea! But neways - don't be scared. You'll love Maranatha n you'll LOVE Weeks! Guarantee it! Ask lots of questions. Hayley or your pc/ra are good ppl to ask. Um...def. don't buy new books unless you have to - most times you can always find a book to borrow/rent (for much cheaper). DON'T stress on how to pay for college. DO fill out paperwork for grants (fed. and state), fill out scholarships, maybe get a job. :) If God brought you here, He WILL NOT let you down. He will carry you thru...no matter what things look like. Just trust Him. (Believe me, I know!) Um...bring sticky tack to hang things up...works better than tape. DON'T hang out at Wal-Mart (well, at least not on Friday nites, there's almost always a better option - like, hanging out with ppl from ur dorm!!! :) ...unless u have no other option... I've gotta go get ready for work, again, but I know you will love it here! I know we're all excited to have you here! I know God will do great things in your life while you are here! I hope you're getting pumped to come!!! ~ Em G :)
Hey.. lets see tips for freshman... personalize the space you get- make it fit you- come in with an open mind- you're roommates will be great and you will come to love them even if you don't think so at first- heels are fun but sometime hurt you feet walking to and from weeks ;)- don't go home every weekend (if you are close enough)- stay once in awhile and get to know people- a cell phone is almost necessary seeing that you're hardly ever in your room when the phone rings- don't bring everything you own- don't think you've fallen in love with all the guys the first week ;) lol- and realize you do have questions and concerns and ask- better to ask than to be clueless. I'm looking forward to meeting all the new ones. I was a transfer this past year so I know what it's like to be the newbie. Remember, you'll love it here and weeks is worth the walk!
to those on first floor I'm excited about this next semester. I have already started to plan some outings for us =) take care and to the new girls... you will have a great time.
